The Summit County Stand Down for Homeless Veterans (SCSDHV) was founded by our own Summit County veteran, and Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame alumni, Laura Williams Dunlop in 2005. Laura insists, she didn't start this alone, but I believe that those who have known Laura for years, know that she is a great leader and inspiration to many initiatives leaving a positve impact on our community.
The Summit County Stand Down for Homeless Veterans was the first of ONLY two Ohio-based stand downs exclusively conducted for veterans and provides no-cost, confidential services through a collaborative partnership involving more than 30 veterans groups and governmental agencies to the homeless or displaced veterans of Summit County before the winter months.
Our annual event is registered with the

Coming from a very diverse cross-section of our community Volunteers from all over Summit County, come together in several planning sessions which culminate in a one-stop event meant to provide compassionate assistance in a way that pays tribute to the men and women of our Nation who have fallen on hard times as a result of many causes. We don't judge, and we treat every client with the utmost of respect and dignity. It is not easy for a veteran to ask for help. They shouldn't ever have to be in this position in the first place.
